为了大规模测量互联网链路性能,该文利用广泛部署的网站服务器提出一种测量方法 Pathperf。Pathperf工作在待测链路的一端,在链路另一端查找网站服务器,通过从网站上下载页面来测量链路性能。该方法可分为两部分:1)采集互联网上已有的网站服务器信息,并通过边界网关协议(boarder gateway protocol,BGP)路由表和IP地址位置信息将任意单播IP地址和它附近的网站服务器配对;2)利用域名服务(domain name service,DNS)来传送网站服务器信息。在中国教育网部署后,Pathperf采集了3 536 912个不同的网站服务器,分布在22 656个自制域内,保证了本方法的高可用性。该文通过Planetlab平台测试了Pathperf映射算法的准确度,在92.5%的情况下Planetlab节点与映射到的网站服务器之间的延时小于16ms。通过与带宽测量工具Iperf和延时测量工具King方法的比较,证明了Pathperf可以准确预测链路的延时、带宽等性能指标。
In order to measure the performance of Internet links on a large scale, this paper proposes Pathperf, a measurement method, with a widely deployed web server. Pathperf works at one end of the link under test, looks up the web server at the other end of the link, and measures link performance by downloading pages from the website. This method can be divided into two parts: 1) Collecting the existing web server information on the Internet and sending any unicast IP address and the web site near it through the routing table and IP address location information of the boarder gateway protocol (BGP) Server pairing; 2) using domain name service (DNS) to send web server information. After the deployment of China Education Network, Pathperf collected 3,563,912 different web servers distributed in 22,656 home-made domains, ensuring the high availability of this method. This paper tests the accuracy of Pathperf mapping algorithm by Planetlab platform, and the delay between Planetlab nodes and the mapped web server is less than 16ms in 92.5% of the cases. By comparing with Iperf, a bandwidth measurement tool and King method, a delay measurement tool, it is proved that Pathperf can accurately predict link delay, bandwidth and other performance indexes.
