长沙市歌舞剧院演出歌剧《马桑树》的说明书上标有这样一句话:“马桑树是生长在湘西山区的极不起眼的一种灌木……”在说明书上,这句小五号字的注解也很不起眼,但在我看过这部歌剧的演出后,再看说明书,就觉得这句话十分“醒目”了。剧作者以这种生长在湘西山区“几多回日头晒,几多回火烧山,一蓬接一蓬,雨后又绿了山”的生命力极强的植物比喻湘西革命老区的人民群众,比喻他们对革命事业的坚强信念,对党和红军的深情。以及他们具有的那种坚韧不拔的革命斗志,很是贴切,很是恰当。我第一次观看《马桑树》的演出是在去年11月在湖南株州市举办的全国歌剧观摩演出期间。那时这部歌剧刚刚赶排出来,无论剧本、音乐和演出都还比较粗
