Objective To study the changes and clinical significance of homocysteine (Hcy) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in elderly patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods The differences of serum Hcy and hs-CRP between 136 elderly patients with acute cerebral infarction and 60 healthy controls were compared. The levels of serum Hcy and hs-CRP in patients with acute cerebral infarction were analyzed. Results The levels of serum Hcy and hs-CRP in patients with acute cerebral infarction were significantly higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). The levels of Hcy and hs-CRP were positively correlated with the severity of the disease. Conclusion Serum Hcy and hs-CRP levels can be used as indicators to evaluate the severity of the disease in elderly patients with cerebral infarction.
