Toni Morrison, the famous African American writer, not only paid attention to the issue of black identity, but also paid close attention to the relationship between space and identity. In many of his works, Morrison explores the role of kitchens in the self-identification of black women and even black men. For black women, the kitchen is not just a place of oppression, but also a shelter and self-creation. The activity and communication in the kitchen made the kitchen no longer a private space, but a public space that helps black women and their descendants understand history, give it a sense of belonging and increase community awareness.
