对节白蜡为我省林业工作者近年来在京山和钟祥两县接壤处发现的一个新物种。据考察研究结果表明,它在植物树木分类学上的位置是属木犀科(Oleaceae),白蜡属(Fraxinus)的植物,为白蜡属一新种,我们将它定名为对节白蜡(Fraxinus hupehensis)。对节白蜡为落叶乔木,树皮灰褐色,幼时平滑,侧生小枝常棘刺状,冬芽锈褐色,顶芽外被2枚叶状鳞片,腋芽较小。幼枝绿色,后渐变淡黄灰色,奇数羽状复叶,在营养枝或萌生枝上,复叶具小叶9～11
