我最早知道陈叔通先生,是在我父亲学鉴赏时的老师张效彬老先生的寓所。张老是有名的古文物鉴赏家和收藏家,郭沫若等知名人士是他那里的常客。少年时代,父亲常携我去张老寓所。张老的故宅在今北京什刹海畔的鸦儿胡同。寓所院门上高悬的“固始张”(张老为河南固始人,清末有功名)的匾额,即为陈叔通先生所题。后来年长,知道陈叔通老先生不仅是一生追求进步,对国家和人民鞠躬尽瘁的社会活动家,也是一位大学问家和鉴赏收藏家。
