The paper critically analyzes the key issues faced by project pro-fessionals in manufacturing industries in Beijing when they terminate R&D projects. On the exploring the related literatures and discussing with the experts in this domain, an initial set of variables influencing the output of R&D projects are proposed, and a questionnaire based on these variables is designed also. Further, a large - scale survey on the termination decision of R&D projects in manufacturing industries in Beijing is carried out. Sta-tistical analysis was carried out on data collected, and eight factors having high and significant discriminating strength for the output of R&D project are identified.
