人类一般仅有一对乳腺。但有的中年妇女一侧或双侧腋下局部鼓起,可触及较软的肿块,随月经周期可有胀痛。这就是副乳腺,也称为多乳房症。 副乳腺是在胎儿发育过程中产生的。当胎儿体长1厘米时,腹部两旁自腋前线向下,通过正常位置的乳头至腹股沟的连线上(乳腺发生线),由外胚层的上皮发生许多对乳头状组织,为乳腺始基。在正常情况下,仅有胸前的一对乳腺始基继续发育,其余的始基在出生前退化、消失。如果不退化,或退化不完全,则在出生后形成多余的乳腺,这就是副乳腺。
