白族历史上有无文字?如有,是什么样的文字?对于汉文化浸润很深,多数人都能娴熟运用汉语汉文的白族,创制白文是进步还是退步?什么样的白文方案才符合白族社会的实际需求?这些问题,长期困扰从事白族历史文化研究的学术界,其影响所及,无论官方或民间,都难以回避。本文拟就这些问题谈点抛砖引玉之见,以期推动这一问题的进一步深入探讨并最终求得共识,共同促进白族文化研究的健康发展。一、白文古已有之,至今民间仍在使用白族族源及其形成,白族早期的社会形态,白族与苍洱境内星罗棋布的新石器文化遗址,尤其是与云南迄今最早的宾川白羊村新石器文化遗址和剑川海门口青铜文化遗址有什么渊源,见于多种记载和传说的“白子国”能告诉我们哪些历史信息,至今众说纷纭,莫衷一是。然而,南诏、大理国在苍洱境内建都立国五百多年,几乎与唐宋相始终,白族在其间扮演着极其重要的角色,史有明载。
