On September 15-19, 2014, the 50th anniversary of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) was held in Vienna. Prof. Weng Jianping, chairman of Chinese Diabetes Association (CDS), was invited to attend the symposium and gave an academic report titled “The Epidemic Features of Type 2 Diabetes in Asia”. Professor Weng Jianping reported that in the past 30 years, the prevalence of diabetes in Europe and the United States has gradually softened. However, the prevalence of diabetes in China, India, Indonesia and other countries has risen sharply. According to the Diabetes Map of the International Diabetes Federation in 2013, the number of diabetic patients in these three countries reached 98.4 million and 65.1 million respectively
