《山茶》自创刊以来,发表了许多少数民族和汉族作家、作者反映边疆少数民族生活的创作和数量众多的新民歌。其中有大家熟悉的作家和诗人的作品,如白族诗人晓雪的长篇叙事诗《大黑天神》(80年第二期)、白族作家杨苏的中篇小说《石钟山的故事》(82年第六期、83年第一期连载)、藏族诗人饶阶巴桑的《爱的花瓣》(82年第五期)、白族作家张长的散文《蜜峰》(81年第四期)、回族作家马瑞麟的抒情诗《流蜜的河》(82年第一期)等等;也有许多后起之秀的作品,如纳西族杨世光的散文《玉龙春色》(80年第三期)、纳西族
