Ladies and Gentlemen, the greatest bus war of the 1990s is about to break out. The war was an AMD company at Intel Corp., both of which are major lenders for PC processors. For Intel, it is trying to bring the processor industry to its P6 bus. This is the bus the Pentium II will use to communicate with the rest of the system. Intel plans to increase the bus speed to 100MHz, which is almost 50% faster than the current 66MHz processor bus speed. Intel also plans to make P6 have higher performance, in order to raise the attractiveness of this bus. Dispute arises: The new bus architecture uses many of Intel’s proprietary technology, which means that AMD competes with other X86 processors
