Fang Zhimin, born in 1900 in Yiyang County, Jiangxi Province. In 1922, he joined the Chinese Socialist Youth League and joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1923. During the First Revolutionary Civil War, the peasant movement was led in Jiangxi. After the Kuomintang reactionaries mutinied the revolution in 1927, he led the Hengfeng uprising in Yiyang and founded the revolutionary bases in northeast Jiangxi.
