契丹文使用了几百年,直至金灭辽后契丹文仍在使用,到了金章宗明昌二年(1191年),契丹文被沼令废除。契丹文的创制不仅在契丹历史上具有划时代的意义,对西夏、女真等北方少数民族文字创制亦有直接或间接的影晌,提供了先例与经验,这是契丹族对中国文化的一个重要贡献。
Khitan used for hundreds of years until Khitan Liaodong Khitan is still in use, to Jinzong Ming Ming two years (1191), Khitan Wen was abolished. The creation of the Khitan language not only has epoch-making significance in the history of Khitan, but also provides precedents and experiences for direct or indirect influence on the creation of characters in the northern minority such as Xixia and Jurchen. This is an important contribution of the Khitan ethnic group to Chinese culture .
