休谟认为同情不仅作为人性的一部分,同时它作为一种情感,强调的是对道德体验的传递与感染。论证同情是进行道德区分的基础是建立在对理性直观主义的批判基础上的,同时离不开两个逻辑预设,即明智的观察者与想象,以及具体的作用机制即投射。正因为作为人性一部分的同情不是超越人自身存在的,因而从现实的个人出发对人进行道德教化是道德教育应该努力的方向,同时也是对在道德领域企图诉诸宗教或类宗教的主张的一种反驳。
