Objective To understand the anxiety status of undergraduates in a university in Xi’an and to provide evidence for the mental health education work in colleges and universities. Methods The self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) developed by Zung in 1971 was used to evaluate 132 college students in a university in Xi’an, including 47 girls and 85 boys. Results The average SAS score of all students was 40.14 ± 9.51. According to the SAS score, the detection rate of anxiety symptoms was 18.2%, of which mild was 14.4%, moderate 3.0% and severe 0.8%. There was no significant difference between boys and girls (P> 0.05), there was significant difference between different grades (P <0.01). There were significant differences among different majors (P <0.01), but there was no significant difference among different sources (P> 0.05). Conclusion Anxiety symptoms of college students are more common and can not be ignored.
