在长城保护和研究的学者眼里,中国古建筑学家罗哲文被誉为“万里长城第一人”。早在1952年他便骑着毛驴上山查看长城遗址,主持和参与八达岭、虎山等众多长城遗址的保护工作。1985年,罗哲文和郑孝燮、单士元起草报告,参加了《保护世界文化和自然遗产公约》的申报工作,使长城成为受保护的世界文化遗产之一。罗哲文先生,1924年生,四川宜宾人。1940年,罗哲文考入中国营造学社,师从著名古建筑学家梁思成、刘敦桢等。1946年在清华大学与中国营造学社合办的中国建筑研究所及建筑系工作。从1950年起,他先后任职于文化部文物局、国家文物局、文物档案资料研究室、中国文物研究所等,一直从事中国古代建筑的维修保护和调查研究工作。

Since 1950, he has been working in the Cultural Relics Bureau, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Department of Cultural Relics and Archives, China Institute of Cultural Relics, etc., has been engaged in the maintenance of ancient Chinese architecture and research work.
