In order to better understand and appreciate this famous speech, the author and the background of this speech are introduced briefly. Petri Rick Henry (1736-1799), a politician and orator of the American Revolutionary War and early Republicanhood, twice served as governor of Virginia. He grew up in Virginia, and his ancestors were immigrants from Scotland. Under the strict teaching of his father, he had a good foundation in his youth; when he was a young man, he passed the business and ran the farm, but he did not succeed and later studied law. In 1765 he was elected to Virginia as a lawyer; in the same year he made a striking appearance in the council for his speech against the Stamp Law. He later advocated his own legislation more on the thirteen colonies independent of the British Parliament. He is in the local parliament for this fight
