计算机工业界的经营者们仿佛一 夜之间突然领悟到Internet决不 仅仅是世界上最大的电子邮件(E-mail)系统以及计算机操作者寻欢作乐的场所。功能强大、低价格以及基于各种标准的开放式Internet网将成为建立各种崭新战略、产品、公司、市场乃至少数巨富的“平台”。当年IBM个人电脑震撼世界的神话再度降临人间,全球性网络势必要重塑整个工业的经营模式。Sun公司主管工作站市场的Eric E.Schmidt说道:“火箭已经发射出去,没有人能使它停下来。计算机世界的未来将由Tnternet来定义”。
It seems as if overnight the business community in the computer industry suddenly realized that the Internet is more than just the world’s largest e-mail system and the place for computer operators to have fun. Powerful, low-cost and open Internet based on a variety of standards will be the “platform” to create a variety of new strategies, products, companies, markets and even a handful of rich people. The myth that IBM personal computers shook the world came to earth once again. The global network is bound to reshape the business model of the entire industry. Eric E. Schmidt, director of the workstation market at Sun, said: “The rocket has been launched and no one can stop it. The future of the computer world will be defined by Tnternet.”
