At the beginning of last century, “house shortage” became the most urgent problem to be solved in the entire Europe. The thought of modernist dwelling house appeared. Take the example of the residential area of Bou Buer in Cobusi as an example to analyze the multi-layer idea of modernism and “the dwelling is the living machine” and the social problems caused by the tide of high-density dwellings thereafter. This paper focuses on the new neighborhood development model of Florida Metropolitan Coastal Florida as an example. It compares and contrasts the development and innovation of neo-urbanism with the modernism from three aspects: ideal distance, public space and local characteristics. At last, it makes reference to the neo-urbanism for the current community construction in China and the protection of the traditional town blocks.
