Objective To investigate the changes of serum ferritin (SF) and β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) levels in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and to investigate the clinical value of SF and β2-MG levels in the treatment of children with ALL. Methods From July 2008 to April 2010, 53 children with ALL diagnosed as hospitalized in the blood ward and 28 children with ALL with remission after control were enrolled in this study. Fasting venous blood was collected for determination of SF and β2-MG, 30 normal healthy children were selected as the control group. Results The serum levels of SF and β2-MG in children with ALL before treatment were significantly higher than those in normal controls (P <0.01). After treatment, the levels of SF and β2-MG in children with ALL were significantly lower, and with the progression of the disease Gradually recovered to the normal level. Compared with that before treatment, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.01). Conclusion SF and β2-MG can be used as effective monitoring indicators of clinical treatment of ALL.
