George Eliot provides a more detailed presentation of the current status and predicament of Victorian women. The heroine Maggie’s pursuit of freedom and love in The Mill on the Floss Breaks through social ethics and family ethics as well as mistrust and compromise in love and accountability. This article interprets the feminism of The Mill on the Floss River to study the advanced nature and limitations of feminism in the novel.
