According to the International Defense Review, issue 6, 1979, the British Army has selected power units for the MBT-80 tanks that entered service in the mid-1980s. The military has proposed purchasing diesel-powered units in the United Kingdom. Overall, the plan for the MBT-80 tank is about two years ahead of schedule. Before the parliament adjourned in late July this year, a formal notice of the engine was announced. The two engines that competed on the MBT-80 tank were the AGT-1500 gas turbine from AVCO Lycra United States and the V-12CV series diesel engine from the British Ross-Reis Engine Company. The reason for the failure of the gas turbine has not been reported, but it is estimated that its high fuel consumption is a major factor.
