Amartya Sen, born in 1933 in the Bay of Bengal, India, received a doctorate from Cambridge University in England in 1959 and has taught in India, the United Kingdom and the United States. He left Harvard University in 1998 to Dean of Trinity College, Cambridge University. He has written human development reports for the United Nations Development Program and served as economic advisor to former United Nations Secretary-General Gurry. He received the 1998 Nobel Prize in economics for his contribution to the welfare economics. In addition to his economic development, he has done a lot of work on welfare economics and social choice theory, and has made remarkable achievements.
