Telomeres are specific structures at the ends of chromosomes that stabilize and protect the chromosomes. Telomerase can make up for missing pieces of telomeres. The continuous telomere shortening and the activation of telomerase are closely related to the occurrence and development of malignant tumors and the immortalization of cells.
