Lin Yifu, former chief economist of the World Bank, believes that China’s economy will continue to develop rapidly in the next 20 years. China’s transition from a planned economy to a market economy has not yet been accomplished. However, China is now a middle-income country with the exception of a handful of industries related to national defense and security, with the vast majority at the initial stage of reform and opening up. If China can comprehensively deepen the reform in the direction set by the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, it will set up a system with an “effective market” and make it even more conducive to the “making for a government.”
