丹竹人民公社位于西江北岸,地势低洼,土地贫瘠,非涝即旱。群众中曾流传这样一首歌谣:“三日无雨成大旱,七日无雨就成灾,鸡儿撒尿淹低榔,母猪撒尿浸塌房。”公社化后,粮食依然不能自给。自从党提出社会主义建设总路线后,丹竹五万多人民,高举总路线、大跃进、人民公社的红旗,经过两年多的艰苦奋斗,使丹竹地区起了翻天复地的变化,由全县最穷的一个社变为富社。
