談起長江航運事業,人們會想到兩個‘民生’,一個是一九二五年盧作孚創辦的‘民生實業股份有限公司’,一個是一九八三年由盧氏次子盧國紀創辦的‘民生輪船公司’。早在一八九九年,到達重慶的英國人立德爾·普南田帶領的英輪‘先行’號,成為入侵川江的第一艘外國輪船。自此以後,懸掛着外國旗幟的輪船在川江上横行霸道,壟斷了中國內河航運。一九二五年,商人家庭出身、曾經當過教員、記者的盧作孚(一八九三——一九五二年)怀着實業救國的壯志,為發展民族經濟而集資興辦了‘民生實業股份有限公司’,成為舊中國民族資本企業中最大的一個航運企业。
