小三毛金藻属金藻门、金藻纲、金胞藻目,顶生鞭毛3条,中间一条较短,另外两条比胞体长,两侧各有一个板状色素体位于胞体前端1/3~2/3处,白糖素一个或多个位于细胞后端。此藻具有广温性(4℃~28℃)、广盐性(2‰~11‰),一年四季都可形成危害。以前春秋发病较多,现在盛夏季节也频繁暴发,已无明显季节之分,发病一般都在水体较瘦且容易形成小三毛金藻优势种的池塘。小三毛金藻对鱼的危害是由它产生的一种鱼毒素引起。据国外Yarin,J和Hestrin,s.(1961)报道,鱼类不能被单独的小三毛金藻鱼毒素杀死,但由于各种辅助因子(Ca~(2+)、Mg~(2+)等)的作用,鱼类对鱼毒素的毒性变得高度敏感。Shilo,M.(1981)提出,敏感种群中毒的严重
