A workshop to recover about 600 pounds of uranium oxide per day from copper oxide ores is under construction and scheduled to be completed in 1980. The plant is located in a copper-mining plant in the Anamax mining company in the United States. Sulfuric acid leachate from the copper oxide system will be transferred to a continuous ion exchange apparatus, recovering uranium in an amount of only a few ppm by extraction and precipitating with ammonia. The uranium recovered leachate is returned to the copper system to recover the copper. At present, valuable uranium in copper oxide ore is discarded during copper tailings treatment.
