Based on the Speech Act Theory,the paper makes a comparative study on the three most sensitive areas between Chinese and English-speaking interpaersonal communication,pointing out that the failure to inappropriately interprete the utter's illocutionary act due to culture differences leads to the pragmatice failure.It is concluded that Theory of Adaptation and improvement of pragmatic competence are strategies to gurantee the smoothly flow of cross-cultural communication.
