我们经常能在杂锦类的乐谱封面见到一个熟悉的名字—威尔,但是很少有人会特意关注这位编者。笔者在音乐学院求学的几年中,借阅了多本乐谱,也频繁地发现由他汇编的乐谱,于是好奇地查阅众多资料,仅在网上找到一篇关于他的传略(现笔者选译部分以飨有兴趣的读者)。阿尔伯特·欧内斯特·威尔(Albert Ernest Wier)是美国20世纪一位著名的乐谱编者,1879年7月22日出生于马赛诸塞州的切尔西(Chelsea)市,1945年9月8日在布鲁克林去世。早年,他在新英格兰音乐学院和哈佛大学学习音乐,1900年起开始编著出版多部音乐曲选集,如常见的《世界儿童钢琴名曲选》(Children’s Piano Pieces the Whole World Plays)、《钢琴名曲大全》
