1 The healthy development of the chemical industry In 1999, Singapore’s chemical industry output value increased by 8.4% from the previous year to S$23.7 billion (14.2 billion U.S. dollars). Among them, the petrochemical sector saw the strongest growth, rising by 15.3%. The output value increased from S$4.3 billion in 1998 to S$4.96 billion, and the added value increased by 20.2% to S$719 million.
