INTRODUCTION In recent decades, apple cultivation in the Netherlands has undergone a period of full development that has led to a revolution in cropping systems by using dwarfing anvils and pruning to reduce trees and increase the number of plants planted per hectare. Competitiveness has prompted a shift in the composition of the Dutch variety to the more current varieties. It has been demonstrated that good seedlings are a decisive factor in the success of intensive orchards. Therefore, production measures within nurseries are increasingly becoming an important means of obtaining good fruit trees. In addition, it is important that fruit trees in the orchard have a good initial condition. Drip irrigation is particularly beneficial and it has been found to be a suitable nursery production measure.
