Under the situation of socialist market economy, it is a major issue to regard Comrade Deng Xiaoping’s theory of building socialism with Chinese characteristics as a guide for the study of the basic theory of news and for the promotion of the practice of journalism. In December 1994, Nanjing University and Nanjing Daily jointly organized a seminar on market economy and basic theory of journalism. We conducted a survey on the following six aspects of the participants. 1. Your research direction and research priorities. 2. Where do you get research data and how research findings are published. 3. Do you often interact with journalists, do you think their basic theory of journalism and learning how to use. 4. What do you think the current research on the basic theory of journalism is facing?
