抗战结束后,杜月笙将目光定在了上海市市长的职位上。蒋介石既要利用他,又恨他难以驾驭,有心趁着日本投降接收重建上海的契机,加以抑制,不让他名正言顺重新称霸上海。蒋对内甚至明确训示:对帮会的基本政策是取缔。
After the war ended, Du Yuesheng set his sights on the position of the mayor of Shanghai. Chiang Kai-shek should both use him and hate him hard to control. He deliberately took advantage of Japan’s surrender to take advantage of the chance to rebuild Shanghai and suppressed it so that he would not justifiably re-dominate Shanghai.
