Objective To evaluate the role of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Methods 41 cases of AECOPD inpatients from June 2015 to December 2015 in Aming Group were enrolled as the AECOPD group. In the control group, 43 cases were selected from the Second Hospital of Sanming during the same period without any basic diseases and pulmonary function. Predictors of FeNO and forced expiratory volume at 1 second (FEV_1%) before and after treatment in patients with AECOPD were determined. Results The level of FeNO in patients with AECOPD was lower than that before treatment (P <0.05). The levels of FeNO in patients with AECOPD before and after treatment were significantly higher than those in controls (P <0.01). There was no significant difference in Fe NO between AECOPD patients and different lung function groups (P> 0.05). Conclusion FeNO is a noninvasive and convenient means of examination. It can be used as an indicator of airway acidosis in the diagnosis of airway inflammatory diseases and its therapeutic effect.
