The effect of carbon, molybdenum and rare earth elements on the thermal cracking susceptibility of austenitic stainless steel weld was investigated by VDR method. The test results show that reducing the carbon content in the weld metal of austenitic stainless steel and adding appropriate molybdenum can significantly improve the hot cracking resistance of the weld. Rare earth elements on the thermal cracking resistance of the weld also had a significant impact, adding the right amount of rare earth can reduce the amount of inclusions in the weld and size, change its composition and distribution, improve crack resistance. However, if added in excess, the weld will form a large number of rare earth inclusions, reducing the austenitic stainless steel weld crack resistance.
