高雄市立图书馆,地上结构以位于四角的巨型柱与第8层的巨型桁架层组成巨型框架作为主要抗侧力及竖向力系统,并利用钢材受拉最有效率的设计原则,采用高张力钢棒悬吊3楼至7楼的楼板,有效减小柱截面尺寸,实现了地面层的无柱开放空间。地下部分以经济性最好的钢筋混凝土梁柱构造加上筏式基础。该工程为悬吊式结构,故施工顺序是先完成巨柱及顶部桁架层,再自上而下建造,有别于传统建筑工法。该工程在完工后还针对整体结构及楼板作微震测量,以考察理论分析和实际建筑物的振动频率差异,及楼板振动的舒适性。
