A total of 203 cases of paralytic poliomyelitis were reported to the Atlanta Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Virus Disease Unit during the 13 years between 1969 and 1981, including 22 cases recently, 9 cases and 7 cases, which occurred in 1979, 1980 and 1981, respectively. In the early 1950s, there were more than 10,000 poliomyelitis patients, and even in the early stages of vaccine application, the number of cases still varied from a few hundred to a few thousand each year. The incidence was as high as 13.7 / 100,000 in 1952 and 0.03 / 100,000 in 1981. The decline in the incidence, in addition to reducing the number of cases, but also to observe the epidemic characteristics of the disease.
