The essence of effective management lies in excellent decision-making mechanisms. Unfortunately, however, decision-making power is often seen as an innate personality trait. Some people are able to make decisive decisions, while others do not. However, some sociologists are overthrowing this view by studying the psychological and social factors that influence people’s decision-making. Chip Heath, a professor at Stanford Business School and a fellow at Duke University’s Center for Social Enterprise Development, explores in depth the latest research in decision-making. They say that “decision-making power is a behavioral rather than a genetic feature that enables us to make courageous and confident choices not because we know we are right but because it is better to delay and to try and fail regret.”
