Lockheed Martin’s tactical aircraft systems division has applied its LaserUT supersonic detection system to the X-33 recyclable launch vehicle. The system is used to detect horizontal defects in composite parts. After NASA conducted a cryogenic test, it was used to image a 17 ft x 10 ft x 5 ft liquid hydrogen fuel tank for the X-33 rocket.
