This experiment was designed to investigate the effect of inorganic arsenic (As) contamination on heme metabolism. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 36 patients (23 males and 13 females) who were poisoned with well water containing high levels of arsenic over a long period of time in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China were assayed for urinary arsenic and porphyrin levels. 10 normal Chinese as a control group. Methods: Urinary arsenic levels were captured by ultra-low temperature - also by elemental oxidation - atomic absorption
