狼毒为大戟科植物月腺大戟或狼毒大戟的干燥根,始载于《神农本草经》。狼毒药性辛、寒,有毒。归脾、胃、大肠经。具有破积杀虫,拔毒祛腐,除湿止痒等功效。外用可治疗淋巴结结核、皮癣等。狼毒原植物为多年生草本植物,一般于春、秋二季采挖,洗净,切片,晒干。月腺大戟栓皮灰褐色,呈重叠的薄片状,易剥落而显黄棕色。切面黄白色,有异型维管束,形成黄色不规则大理石样纹理或环纹。狼毒大戟切面可见异型维管束形成的较明显
