张顺洪先生的英文专著《19世纪来临之际的英人评华》一书,系统整理了18世纪末、19世纪初英国多个阶层包括马戛尔尼、阿美士德使团成员、传教士以及英国国内的文人、学者对中国的报道和由之反映出的中国形象,深入考察此段时期英国人对中国的政治制度、文化、宗教和民众性格等方面的评价。在此基础上,该著剖析了形成英国人多种对华评价的原因,进而提出“自我标准”概念,并探讨了其与“欧洲中心论”和“东方主义”的区别。
Mr. Zhang Shunhong’s English monograph, “The British Criticism on the Advent of the 19th Century,” systematically collated the works of various sections of Britain in the late 18th and early 19th centuries including Macartney, members of the Armory, missionaries and the United Kingdom The domestic literati and scholars’ coverage of China and the image of China reflected by it reflect the English people’s assessment of China’s political system, culture, religion and popular character during this period. On this basis, this article analyzes the reasons for the formation of a variety of British evaluations on China, and then puts forward the concept of “self-standard ” and discusses its relationship with “Eurocentrism ” and “Orientalism ” the difference.
