炼一吨普通钢的平均用锰量为6公斤,冶金工业的用锰量占锰矿采矿总量的90—95%,其余5—10%用于化学工业,以及用于制造干电池、玻璃、中性和碱性土壤的肥料等等。近年来,不少人认为锰用于钢铁生产是一种浪费。现行锰铁合金生产方法的特点是锰矿石中的锰回收率很低(45—50%)。因此,目前正在研究提高锰在炼钢时的利用效率以及研究从炉渣和劣质矿石中提锰的方法。
