富士通11月13日宣布它将着手研制采用Intel及其自己的半导体芯片技术的高性能服务器。富士通的发言人称,目前的技术通常在一个系统中配置6到8个处理器,而富士通希望能够借助Intel的微处理器以及其自身的内部连接技术以使得在同一个系统中可连接的微处理器数目获得百倍的增长。富士通也表示有意在其服务器中引入Intel和HP正在研制的下一代处理器Merced,这种64位的微处理器预计会在1999年开始供货。不过,富士通公司还未就其开发计划的细节与Intel商讨。
