宜昌三岔垭石墨矿矿床规模为中型,六个矿体中Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ号矿体可利用。Ⅰ号矿体分布于矿区半山腰,全长1178米,沿倾向延深达1320～1200米以下尚未尖灭。平均厚度20.47米,平均品位为11.37%,是该矿区的最主要矿体。可露采。矿床内发育有两种矿石:石墨片岩富矿石及含石墨黑云斜长片麻岩低贫矿石。前者主要组成矿物为石英、绢云母及长石、石墨等。石墨鳞片定向排列,产态有如下四种:①
