天津工商学院建筑工程系是我国近代建筑教育的先驱之一,自1937年成立至1952年调整到天津大学期间,为我国尤其京津地区培养了大批优秀的建筑从业人才。天津工商学院是由法国天主教耶稣会于1921年创办的一所教会学校,初名天津工商大学。1933年8月被南京国民政府教育部正式批准立案,更名为私立天津工商学院,分工、商两科,工科以土木工学教育为主。但是按照教育部相关规定,必须由华籍人士主掌,学院遂聘请毕业于法国公益工程大学土木工程专业的华南圭为院长兼铁路工程学教授。1934年夏,陈炎仲受华南圭的邀请,担任天津工商学院土木工程系建筑学及建筑绘图教授。
The Department of Architecture Engineering of Tianjin University of Commerce and Industry is one of the pioneers of modern architecture education in China. Since its establishment in 1937 and adjusted to Tianjin University in 1952, it has cultivated a large number of outstanding architectural talents for China, especially in Beijing and Tianjin. The Tianjin Institute of Business and Technology is a church school founded by the French Catholic Jesuits in 1921 and was originally called Tianjing Technology and Business University. In August 1933, it was formally approved by the Ministry of Education of the Nationalist Government of Nanjing. It was renamed as the private Tianjin Business School. It was divided into two divisions of labor and business, and engineering was mainly civil engineering education. However, in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education, Chinese nationals must be in charge. The college hires South China Guiyang, who graduated from Civil Engineering at France’s Public Welfare Engineering University, as dean and professor of railway engineering. In the summer of 1934, Chen Yanzhong was invited by Hua Nangui as the professor of architecture and architecture drawing in the Department of Civil Engineering of Tianjin University of Business and Technology.
