三现在塞北宁夏有一大片名叫腾格里的沙漠,沙漠的南沿直逼银川市区,就是这样一个不长树木的地方出土了驼鸟卵化石。无独有偶,河南焦作市也出土了驼鸟卵化石。洛阳市出土了一对长达四米的象牙化石。甘肃省出土了一头高达八米的大象的完整化石,一节也不少。很显然,黄河流域本来是热带地区,森林消失是后来的事情,现在称作塞北的地方甚至变成了沙漠,骆驼代替了驼鸟。哪知驼鸟变驼峰,漠野风光本郁葱。大夏千年昭史册,新天万彩赖工农。云中骏马关河锁,陆上游龙海岳通。树逼狂沙人植树,环球赞此绿茸茸。这是我写的题为《宁夏纵横》的七律,写的时间是一九九五年到银川参加全国新边塞诗研讨会。这以前,我在焦作、洛阳、兰州见过三种化石,这次又见到驼鸟卵化石,所以这首诗开头就写“哪知驼鸟变驼峰,漠野风光本郁葱”。待到我来到银川的时候,这里已经是田栽水稻,餐烹鲢鲤,成了鱼米之乡,塞上江南了。风貌如此大变的条件之一,是西起天山,东穿华北和京津,直达大海的铁路大动脉修通了,把宁夏贯穿于其中了,没有这条大动脉,宁夏的发展是受限制
